203 souls, one hidden system

Soul Engraving is the biggest system in the beta client that no player can see. 203 shoulder imbues sit in the spell data, hidden, unobtainable, and under active construction. This is not Season of Discovery debris. It is Forever content being built right now, and one corner of it quietly assumes a mage healer exists.

Rebuilt, not left behind

Season of Discovery players will recognize the shape: shoulder enchants from the Scarlet Enclave era. But the era test says these are not leftovers. Every one of the 619 spell rows behind the system carries a fresh Forever ID in the 1.2 million range, about a third of the effect texts have been re-authored under new IDs, and souls reference spells Forever itself re-delivered, Metamorphosis, Penance, Riptide, Lava Burst and Frostfire Bolt among them. Somebody copied the system, then kept working on it.

The unfinished edges show too. 202 of the 203 souls share a single placeholder icon in the client, and the community listfile names it: the icon of a Naxxramas Desecrated belt, a straight inheritance from the system's Scarlet Enclave ancestor. Icon passes come late in development; the mechanics come first, and the mechanics are here.

The mage healer tell

Five souls tune Season of Discovery's chronomancy kit, the mage-healer toolkit, and in this client that kit sits class-masked to Mage on the Arcane line. Four of the five carry effect text imported from SoD. The fifth is the tell: Soul of the Wardshaper's Temporal Beacon effect was re-authored under a fresh Forever ID, 1213314. Nobody re-authors an effect for a spec they intend to delete.

The honest verdict stays the honest verdict: mage healing is promised nowhere, and nothing here is confirmed for launch. But someone at Blizzard is building Forever content that needs the mage healer to exist, and the data does not care what the marketing has and has not said.

Who gets what

146 souls are classified by the class spells they name: Druid leads with 28, then Shaman 21, Paladin 20, Hunter 16, Warrior 14, Mage 13, Priest 12, and Rogue and Warlock with 11 each. Another 57 are universal or too generic to pin. Every one is browsable with its effect text on the Classes page, class-filtered, with the uncertainty labeled.

Method: spell rows datamined from beta client 1.60.1.69876, era read from spell ID bands, classification by named class spells. Nothing here is obtainable in the current beta, and all of it can change before launch.
